Letter from the President - June 2003
Dear Clandon Estates Neighbors:
|
|
We would like to thank those of you who have supported the Association
with your dues payment. This money will be used once again for maintenance
of the cul-de-sacs, neighborhood functions and parties and the 2002-2004
Clandon Estates Neighborhood Directory. As always, this is a work in progress
and information will change as quickly as we print it! If we have your
email address we will keep you as up-to-date as possible. As changes occur
either with your family or neighbors, we appreciate your updating us via
. This year we will distribute the Directory to all members of the Clandon
Estates Neighborhood Association and non-member households on Banbury,
Tayport, Allenbury and Clarendon.
YOU HAVE THE POWER! A brief summary of your Neighborhood Association!
- The Clandon Park Subdivision was created in 1978 by the builders of this subdivision. The Subdivision
legally contains suburbs 1 through 87 which are all the houses on the north side of Cannon between Clarendon and SOM;
houses on the west side of SOM between Cannon and Allenbury; and all houses on Allenbury, Banbury, Tayport and Clarendon.
- The first homeowners in this subdivision created a Neighborhood Association to "... provide for
maintenance and preservation of the residence lots and common areas ... and to promote the health, safety and
welfare of the residents within the subdivision ..." (Article III of Articles of Incorporation)
-
Over the years, the Neighborhood Association has maintained the public areas of the subdivisions, created a sense
of community by organizing events (such as block parties, Halloween party, adult only get-togethers, and the
neighborhood-wide yard sale), and represented us at City Hall to improve items such as subdivision lighting, curbs,
sidewalks etc.
-
Membership and leadership in the Association has always been voluntary.
-
Each year several neighbors volunteer their time to contact all 87 households and invite them to join the Association.
Currently the dues are $40/year/home.
- Dues go toward the preservation of the values and amenities in our
neighborhood as stated in Article III above. In the past, ALL neighbors
were invited to attend all events regardless of dues payment. Parties
in the neighborhood are potluck and the Association pays for ancillary
expenses.
- Most of us believe that having an Association that provides stewardship
and fellowship enhances the value of our neighborhood. It makes
this area even more desirable to prospective homebuyers!
For many years Patti Repko and Marguerita Carrabine graciously
volunteered and Co-Chairs of the Association. Last year, Judy Carlin and
Sandy Lusher-Waterhouse agreed to take on the responsibilities of the Chairs.
Ken Ramsay has stayed on as Treasurer and a neighbor is still needed to
oversee landscaping and cul-de-sac island maintenance (each year the Assoc.
hires a landscaper to provide actual cutting service). As in all volunteer
groups, there is no Us and Them. We are all Them and each of Us is responsible
for what does or DOES NOT happen in our neighborhood. Judy and Sandy currently
have the old files and records and can be consulted for information or questions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about your Neighborhood Association
-
Where are the Clandon Estate signs? THEY WERE STOLEN!!! Neal Marks(Banbury) and Steve August(Tayport)
are getting estimates fro new signs and the possibility of lighting them. If we want to purchase new signs
we will have to have a neighborhood assessment, as there is no insurance to cover the theft.
-
Who is in charge of the Landscaping Committee? No one at present.
Neil Marks has kindly done it for several years and is now working on
the sign issue. We need a volunteer from one of the cul-de-sacs to take
over working with the Landscaper and monitoring the work.
-
What is being done about the Clarendon / Allenbury Island?
It is being redone by Briar Hill Landscaping between June 7-14 (weather
permitting). The rocks will be removed, existing trees and bushes grouped
together in a mulched bed, and the remaining area graded and seeded
for grass. Karen Weiss (Clarendon) has generously agreed to water the
area daily until the grass is well established. Six companies were asked
to bid on the project along with maintenance of all three of the cul-de-sacs.
Four responded and Briar Hill was chosen. There will be no assessment
for this project.
ALL 3 ISLANDS are considered PARKS FOR THE ENJOYMENT of
ALL residents of Clandon Estates. PLEASE -- DO NOT dump grass or trash
in these areas, and clean up after your dog, as you would do in any
neighbor's yard or tree lawn.
-
What is in the Landscaping Contract?
They will cut the grass, edge beds, edge curbs, spray for weeds and
clean-up. During the growing season (Spring, Fall), they will cut once
per week and then cutback to bi-monthly cutting. If drought conditions
persist they will cut on an as needed basis. This is the same arrangement
they have with High Point (across the street on Cannon). They charge
$15/cut, which was the same for all of the bids. We will ask them to
do a leaf cleanup in the late fall.
-
Where does the dues money go?
(A) Cutting and seasonal maintenance of the islands; (B) Printing Neighborhood
Directory; (C) Paper goods, soft drinks, decorations, etc. for parties
(neighbors provide side dishes and deserts); (D) Pizza and hot-dogs
for Halloween and Block Party; (E) Photocopying and postage; (F) Street
sale ads; (G) Bank fees; and (H) Occasional upgrades to cul-de-sacs
(i.e. new mulch, major cleanup or new plantings)
-
Who are the members of the Association?
In the directory we have put a star next to the names of neighbors that
have joined the Association for 2002-2003. Only 1 of the 19 households
on Cannon and SOM chooses to participate. The other 48 members are scattered
throughout the remaining 68 households on Allenbury, Banbury, Tayport
and Clarendon.
-
Can I still pay my dues?
Of course! Dues are $40 and be delivered to Ken Ramsay, Treasurer @ 33109 Allenbury. Checks should be made out to
Clandon Estates.
Please call Sandy (498-8282) or Judy (498-4724) or if you have any questions or suggestions.
